Simulation of Shape Memory Wire based Exoskeleton for Flexion and Extension of Upper limb

This paper presents the design of an exoskeleton, an assistive device used for enhancing the function of the human body especially limbs. Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) based rehabilitation device that repetitively flexes and extends the elbow joint would improve hand function by improving the mobility and strength of the hand and in turn improves functional ability. This SMA based exoskeleton can be used by patients who are suffering from muscle control disorder and particularly, have lost control of their upper limb. The insights of the design of the exoskeleton for the upper limb (elbow joint) are analyzed for performing flexion-extension movements which are needed as well as necessary for the activities of daily living (ADL) and in turn, can be used for medical rehabilitation.
