A Novel Step-up Common Ground Five-Level Inverter with Inherent Balance of Capacitors Voltage

In this article, a new five-level flying-capacitor inverter with the increasing ability of input DC voltage and Full elimination of the leakage current is introduced with the application in the single-phase grid-connected Photovoltaic (PV) systems. This topology contains eight power switches, an ultra-fast power diode, and two electrolytic capacitors. One of the advantages of this topology is having proper power electronic devices in comparison with the recent typical five-level inverters. Also, automatic balancing of the capacitor voltage levels with the total reactive power exchangeability is another advantage for this inverter structure. To prove the performance of the proposed inverter, a prototype version of this inverter topology is built in a lab-based on the initial analysis. Also, the dynamic response of the proposed inverter is studied in the presence of sudden step-wise changes in the various indexes.
