An Integrated Design of Cost-effective Bipolar Hexagonal Coil and Active Disturbance Rejection Control for Wireless Power Transfer

This article aims to investigate the special coil design in wireless power transfer. Nowadays, coil design plays an essential role in wireless power transfer (WPT) to improve the mutual inductance while saving costs. Recently, bipolar coils such as DD coils have been validated to enhance the charging zone. In this paper, a design of the bipolar hexagonal (BH) coil with cost-effective consideration is proposed. The comparison is tested in different misalignment conditions, i.e., x-, y- and diagonal misalignment. For achieving similar mutual inductance between the transmitter (Tx) and the receiver (Rx) under the same transmission distance, the proposed BH type can significantly save the LITZ-wire usage. Furthermore, a control approach using active disturbance rejection has been proposed, to make the WPT works in CC and CV modes. Both simulation and experimental tests are conducted to analyze the presented system.
