A 12×12 Imager Array Based on Randomly-Accessible Active Pixel Sensor Inspired by Retinal Photoreceptor

Human retinal photoreceptor is by nature a superior optical sensor with adjustable sensitivity, wide dynamic range and fast response. In this work, an image sensor array based on randomly-accessible active pixel design is studied, aiming to mimic functions of retina. A high responsivity of 194 A/W and a wide dynamic range of 120dB were confirmed in a single pixel. The images captured at low light conditions are also presented together with preliminary results on signal-to-noise ratio.
