Smart Wheelchair with Remote Patient Health Monitoring System

According to the United Nations World Travel Organization (UNWTO), people with disabilities have increased by 2% per year in the decade since 2001 and are estimated at about 26.8 million. Requiring constant monitoring, the elderly people as well as people with disabilities, have the urge for daily motion. Most of the smart wheelchair systems focus on the mobility aspect of the wheelchair. This paper presents a smart wheelchair system, which focuses on the health monitoring as well as the accident detection aspect and provides robust and quick alerts in case of any health-related anomaly or if a fall is detected. The proposed research study intends to bring mobility to the health monitoring system so that the user can be monitored remotely even on a wheelchair.
