Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Security Threats and Mitigation Mechanisms: Systematic Mapping

The aim of this study is to conduct a systematic mapping on security threats and mitigation mechanisms for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), to enable the new scholars planning to start study in the research domain. The systematic mapping was conducted on the published articles between 2011 and 2020, which were retrieved based on Kitcchenham guidelines in conducting a systematic mapping. The review identifies the threats and attacks, and the mitigation mechanism for the identified threats and attacks for BYOD. The study reveals that data leakage and theft, and unauthorized access are the most considered BYOD security threats and attacks. On the other hand, access control solutions, user authentication, artificial intelligence, and mobile device management, are gaining consideration in the domain. Thus, researchers are required to utilize this review as a beginner for future advancement and exploration of other mitigation mechanisms that are yet to gain attention.
