A Compact Monolithic Dielectric Dual-Polarized Magneto-electric Dipole Antenna

A compact dual-polarized magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna is investigated in this letter. The antenna is formed by a monolithic cross-shaped dielectric block with a rectangle part for support and two pairs of orthogonal metal strips printed on the bottom of the cross dielectric. In the antenna design, the dielectric plays a role as a magnetic dipole (MD) while the metal strips are equivalent to an electric dipole (ED). For demonstration, a dual-polarized prototype antenna with the electrical size of
$0.38\lambda_{0}\times 0.38\lambda_{0} \times 0.14\lambda_{0}$
has an impedance bandwidth of 14.1% from 3.25 to 3.85
$\text{GHz}$
with
$\vert S_{11}\vert < -15\ \text{dB}$
covering the N78 band for fifth-generation (5G) New Radio (NR). Furthermore, the antenna has a stable gain of
$8.5 \pm 0.4\ \text{dBi}$
across the operating frequency range, demonstrating the high stability of the radiation characteristic for the two radiation modes.
