Doppler Effect in a 79-GHz Sequential Sampling Pulse Radar

In this paper we investigate the Doppler effect in a chip integrated 79-GHz Sequential Sampling Pulse Radar (SSPR) with 1 ns pulse duration. A mathematical framework describing the Doppler effect in SSPR is developed and substantiated with measurement results acquired with a single-channel SSPR prototype. The outcome demonstrates the applicability of the Doppler effect for reflector velocity estimation in the short pulsed SSPR sensors.
