Digital FIR filtering for static clutter suppression in low resolution MIMO radar

Automated vehicle access will require detection of static obstacles in the surrounding of a stationary vehicle. Some of these obstacles, commonly present in parking area or the side of pavement, will have low RCS and the environment involves a significant amount of static clutter close to the ground, which affects the isolation of target obstacles. Conventional methods which utilise doppler domain cannot be employed. Hence, a new signal processing scheme based on FIR filters is proposed for such specific cases to suppress the clutter and estimate direction of arrival of potential targets, using a two step filtering of the cross-range signal.
