Modeling and Parametric Analysis of an Acceleration Bandpass Inertial Microswitch

A theoretical model for the acceleration bandpass inertial microswitch was proposed, considering the coupling of a slender bar with an offset lumped mass (filter mechanism) and a mass-spring system (movable electrode). It is revealed by solving the theoretical model that only impact loads between the upper and lower cutoff thresholds can make the switch turn to an “ ON” state. Besides, a parametric analysis on both single and double design variables was performed for the upper cutoff characteristic, and accordingly, the effect of design variables on the upper cutoff characteristic was studied in detail. Thus, a reasonable design strategy based on the sensitive design variables was proposed for the bandpass inertial microswitch in wider applications. Plenty of simulation and shock tests were performed to verify the theoretical model. The theory and simulation results for the prototype agreed well with the experimental results.
