Minimization of Active Power losses in a distribution network with capacitor placement using JAYA Algorithm

This paper proposes an unique approach to minimize the power loss by selecting an suitable location and ideal size of shunt capacitor. This process is suitable for reactive power compensation in distribution network. By reducing the power loss, the quality of power supplied to the customer can be improved. A simple optimization algorithm is approached in this paper for determining suitable allocation and capacitor size optimally. In the discussion an updated optimization technique based algorithm is proposed i.e JAYA algorithm. The solution which is best is achieved from the said algorithm from the problem given and worst solution is neglected. The working of JAYA algorithm is tested on two standard bus system consisting of IEEE33 bus and IEEE85 with various study cases i.e for single, twin and triple node injection of capacitor of various size. The importance of the proposed approach has been simulated on the IEEE33 and 85 bus. The obtained results with JAYA algorithm are also analyzed with other existing algorithm with respect to power loss.
