Microcontroller Based Feeder Protection System from Various Fault Conditions in Distribution Line

Distribution automation helps utilities to update all adaptable controls for distribution systems that can be used to boost performance, reliability and electrical service quality. Not only does automation boost those characteristics, but also decreases human effort and saves time. One of the common types of problems that contributes to much of the insulation and system damage in our nation is the under and over voltage problem. Moreover, there are several other fault conditions in distribution lines due to which proper steps are required to be taken. In this paper, a microcontroller-based system is designed that can detect six faults for protecting the feeder lines overload fault detection, overvoltage fault detection, temperature fault detection, earth fault detection, emergency fault detection, low voltage fault detection. Moreover, a GSM module has been added to the system so that it can send notification to the responsible authority if any fault occurs. There are more other previously designed feeder protection systems, but the proposed design detects much more faults than the existing ones.
