Design of A Novel Microchannel-Based Device for Dielectrophoresis Separation of Cancer Cells From Red Blood Cells

We present a novel microchannel-based device for separating cancer cells from red blood cells using dielectrophoresis for biosensor applications. The great point of our proposed device is the considerable low applied voltage to the electrode array for dielectrophoretic force generation, leading to the decrease in Joule heating effect and cell death. A numerical model was also developed to validate the device's working principle, examine particle focusing and separation behavior, and evaluate the separation efficiency. Using the unique structure, the numerical analysis results show that the required driving voltage is ten times smaller than the conventional channel. The obtained results provide a potential tool for a labon-a-chip system with outstanding advantages.
