Optimization of SVC Placement With Genetic Algorithms Using Matlab’s at 150kV Transmission System

In the electric power system, voltage profile improvement is needed to reduce power losses that often occur. Tools that are widely used to improve this voltage profile include SVC (static var compensator) which is a component of FACTS (Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems). The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal location and capacity of the SVC, as well as to determine the effect of installing SVC. This research was conducted on a 150 KV transmission system in the load control area of West Java, the subsystem of south Bandung and New Ujung Berung because there are still buses whose voltage exceeds the IEEE standard, namely 0.95 pu to 1.05 pu. The research method used for power flow simulation is Newton Raphson and genetic algorithm in MATLAB R2014 to determine the optimal location and capacity of the SVC. The results show that the optimal SVC placement uses an algorithm that is placed on North Bandung buses with a rating of -70.5 MVAR and 70.5 MVAR, Cianjur buses with a -62.19 MVAR and 62.19 rating and Rancaekek buses with a - 193.53 MVAR and 193.53 MVAR rating. After optimizing the SVC layout, the system performance is improved i.e. all bus voltages are at IEEE standard levels and power losses are decreased.
