FE Modeling and Performance Analysis of a Coreless Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Generator

This paper presents the utilization of 3D Finite Element (FE) modelling to perform electromagnetic analysis of the coreless Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator AFPMG. The steady state performance of the AFPMG is predicted based on a magneto-static analysis. The magnetic flux and air gap flux density distribution are obtained from the FE model where initial results are validated by experimental setup. A custom macro is developed to extract the induced voltages and the harmonics contents in the output waveform of the generator. Finally the FE no-load and load performance results are obtained and compared with experimental test results.
