Ultrasonic Scanning System for Cartography Applications

This work presents the design and the development of an ultrasonic scanning system to be used in hard accessible areas as pipelines. It focuses on the distribution of the ultrasonic sensors, data reading, and graph plotting. The system is developed around seven HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors, a servomotor, a Bluetooth adapter, and an SD card adapter. An Arduino Mega development board controls all these components. First-time, the circuit functionality was tested on a breadboard. The final system was implemented on a custom PCB. Scannings of round and square shape objects were conducted, which reveals the scanning capability of the system and the resolution of the sensor distribution as a critical factor.
