Comparison of Binary and Ternary Layered Structures as Claddings of Bragg Waveguide

Periodic structures with two and three layers on period are considered. Band diagrams are calculated on the base of dispersion equation solutions. It is shown that one-dimensional ternary periodic structure has wider first band gap width than binary one. Moreover, omnidirectional total-reflection range has been enhanced. It makes application of ternary periodic structures more convenient for cladding of hollow core Bragg waveguides.
