Comparative Performance Evaluation of various Fractional order controllers in comparison with Conventional VI Controller for LFC

Due to high penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) in conventional power system, system inertia has reduced and rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) is getting increased attention to could ensure the stability of microgrid. Virtual Inertia (VI) controller is used to improve the frequency response of the power system in Load Frequency Control (LFC) but due to presence of different uncertainty in the system the performance of the conventional VI requires to be improved by additional second level controllers. In this paper, conventional VI controller combined with fractional order (FO) controllers are implemented to improve the system stability during LFC. Particle Swam Optimization is used for finding out the optimal parameters of the proposed controller. The robustness of proposed controller is verified by implementing different nonlinearities in the system. The effectiveness of the scheme is validated by simulation in MATLAB/Simulink.
