Recent Advances in Phase Locked Loops for Grid Connected Systems: A Review

In recent decades, Renewable Energy (RE) generation and penetration to the grid has grown tremendously. The REs are intermittent in nature and connected to the grid through Power Electronics devices that may degrade the quality of power by polluting grid voltage quantities (Amplitude, Phase, and Frequency) and also disturb the stability of the grid. It is important to ensure proper and fast grid synchronization is to be done. To fulfill this objective Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs) are widely used in grid-connected systems. This paper provides an extensive review of recent attempts to increase the effectiveness of PLLs for grid synchronization.
