Intelligent On-line Monitoring Systems of Process Stability in Lapping Process

In response to the lack of on-line monitoring of process stability in the traditional lapping process, the limit device of the workpiece was retrofitted to reflect the process stability in the lapping process by monitoring the trend of the friction force during the lapping process in real-time. The relationship between the stability of the workpiece removal rate and the stability of the friction force was investigated by lapping K9 glass on the modified lapping machine. The results show that the friction between the workpiece and the lapping plate can qualitatively reflect the stability of the lapping process without the need to repeatedly measure the profile of the workpiece during the lapping process and that the lapping process can be guided by real-time observation of strain changes, which is important for improving the certainty and controllability of the lapping process.
