Research of the Level of Driver Involvement in the Management of a Highly Automated Vehicle

This article describes an experiment aimed at solving the problem of assessing the degree of driver distraction from driving tasks while driving in a highly automated vehicle (HAV). Based on the results of the experiment, the basic concept of an algorithm for assessing the driver’s involvement in the control process when driving in a HAV has been developed. The developed concept can be applied to the design of various kinds of interfaces used for cars with adaptive driver assistance systems or having solutions of varying degrees of automation. Understanding the processes inside the car interior will allow you to better assess the quality of the driver’s work, as well as adapt the settings of automation systems to the psychotype of a particular driver, which will create the best operating conditions for the vehicle and, as a result, increase the level of safety on public roads.
