Energy Storage optimization Configuration for Controlling Wind Power Fluctuations Considering Battery Life Degradation

Wind power output uncertainty leads to bad effects on the reliability of power supply and even the stability of the power grid. Using energy storage devices such as battery can provide a necessary energy buffer to the process of wind power connecting to grid. Installation capacity and power of energy storage battery have direct influence on the effect of smoothing wind power fluctuations and economy. Based on the goal of limiting wind power fluctuations, reducing energy storage total cost and extending the durable years of battery, this paper establishes a two-stage energy storage optimization configuration model that takes into account battery life loss under irregular charging and discharging behaviors. The first stage is to minimize the installation cost and annual operation cost while meeting the limitation of wind power fluctuations, and in the second stage the model further optimizes battery charging and discharging strategy to maximize the durable years of battery. Finally, this paper selects typical daily wind power output curves for each season of a wind farm as a case to test the model, and the results show that the model established in this paper can reduce the energy storage investment and extend the durable years of battery effectively while strictly controlling wind power fluctuations within the limit value.
