Capacity Evaluation of Agricultural Irrigation Load Participating in Operating Reserve of Power System

The power system can face the challenge of inadequate operating reserve capacity as a result of the large-scale and high proportion of renewable energy linked to the grid. This paper proposes that the agricultural irrigation load be used as the power system operating reserve, establish the model for control and dispatch of a power system with agricultural irrigation load operating reserve, analyze the mode in which agricultural irrigation pump cluster is controlled by load agent, and attained the estimation method of capacity evaluation of agricultural irrigation load participating in operation reserve. On this basis, an optimization model is developed, in which the agricultural irrigation load agent aggregator aims to maximize operating benefit with the constraint of meeting agricultural irrigation demand and power grid operating limits. The findings show that the application of agricultural irrigation load in operation dispatching of the power system has considerable technological and economic feasibility, and can be used as an effective method of demand-side response.
