Piecewise Prediction Control Design for a Class of Spin-Stabilized Projectiles in Descending Segment

The deviation of ballistic model in the impact point prediction control is an inevitable problem which may incur the loss of control accuracy. In addition, the computing algorithm of canards roll angles in canards-fixed projectiles remains to be coped with. To tackle these challenges, a piecewise prediction control strategy for a class of spin-stabilized projectiles with canards is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the concept of piecewise prediction is obtained by analyzing the section error of impact point prediction model. Secondly, a simple linear formula to compute roll angle of canards is deduced, and piecewise guidance law is designed. Finally, simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm, and the results show that the piecewise prediction control achieves outstanding performance, superior to the impact point prediction control with modified point mass model in the given conditions.
