Investigation of Gain Enhancement using Dual Layer Antenna for WLAN Applications

The analysis of gain enhancement utilising two layer antenna for 5.4 GHz WLAN applications is reported in this research work. The conventional rectangular shape patch antenna with dual layer FR4 substrate material was constructed. The overall dimension of proposed antenna is 36x32x3.2mm

and each substrate layer dimension is 1.6mm. By using number of square, circular and
$T$
shape slot on the top layer patch side the electrical length dimensions is varying and achieved required resonant frequency 5.4 GHz with S11 is -44 dB which is better -10dB impedance bandwidth. The single layer to dual layer, overall gain has improved from 2.94dB to 5.78dB. For better improvement of gain multiple slots are introduced on the patch and achieved 5.78dB. In this work both simulation, fabrication and measurement carried out with help of 3D CST EM analyzer tool, MITS fabrication unit and Vector network analyzer. The S11 in dB, VSWR, gain, bandwidth and radiation pattern is analyzed in this research work. This proposed structure is best suitable for WLAN applications.
