Gain Enhancement of Dual Layer Truncated Corner Triangular Slot with DGS Patch Antenna for 5G/WLAN Applications

This work presents a dual-layer truncated corner triangular slot with defected ground structure (DGS) patch antenna used for 5G and WLAN applications which is simulated, fabricated and measured. The FR-4 dielectric material with dielectric constant of 4.3 used both layer with thickness of 0.8mm each. The overall proposed antenna structure dimension is
$45.45\times 39.45\times 1.6\text{mm}^{3}$
. For better impedance matching quarter wave length feeding technique is adopted. Initially, the single layer simulation results are evaluated and then the dual layer simulation results are obtained. From that the dual layer, the return loss at 3.58GHz, 5.3GHz showing −14.95dB, −21.53dB and corresponding gain is 4.93dB and 5.62dB. After triangular slots cutting in dual layer with DGS the return loss observed −24.95dB,−21.64dB and gain is 6.27dB, 6.58dB at 3.58GHz and 5.3GHz. The directivity also improved from single layer to dual layer and dual layer to triangular slot truncated corner with DGS. The VSWR also improved in all the stages of the proposed designs. The radiation plots also obtained and by the observation dual layer with triangular slot it enhance the results compares to the single layer antenna. CSTMW 2018 used to model the simulation outcomes such as Radiation, VSWR, Gain, and Return Loss. The results of the slot antenna simulated, fabricated and measured in both the simulated and measured results are good agreement with each other. This proposed structure is best suitable for 5G and WLAN applications.
