Design of a TWT Collector Integrable on the same Substrate of a Planar Slow Wave Structure

In this paper, we report the design of a collector, for a traveling wave tube, that could be realized on a dielectric substrate. The collector could be directly integrated with a planar slow wave structure, such as a meander line, directly on the same substrate. The novel approach could reduce part of the fabrication costs of a TWT. The designed collector can work up to a beam current of 40 mA. Several beam voltages from 5 kV to 10 kV were considered. A maximum collector efficiency of 95.7% was achieved.
