Influence of axial pulley misalignment on power loss in layered steel bands and of metal V-belt type CVT

The objective of this study is to clarify the influence of the axial pulley misalignment on transmitting efficiency and transmitting torque of metal V belt type CVT. The experiments for evaluating power loss were carried out, varying the axial pulley misalignment. The power loss, resistance torque and slip ratio of the layered steel bands (so called steel rings) were measured with respect to the axial misalignment by original test apparatus with conventional rotary encoders, torque meters and load cell. The power loss of CVT was increased when axial misalignment was increased. Slip ratio and resistance torque of the layered steel bands were increased as number of bands was increased. It was found that resistance torque of the V-belt type CVT was caused by friction between the layered steel bands and the flanges, contributed to the slip and power loss.
