Design and Implementation of Broadband Techniques for 2.5 to 8.0 GHz Compact CMOS Phase Shifter

This paper presents the design techniques and implementation of a 2.5-to-8.0 GHz miniaturized broadband passive phase-shifter by introducing a custom-designed twometals inductor, fixing DC bias at RF input/output and crosscoupled center tapered inductor: To demonstrate the validity of these techniques, design and post-layout EM simulation results of the traditional and proposed T-bridged LC phase-shifter have been carried out for a 22.5° passive phase-shifter: The proposed topology has shown broadband phase-shifter response with RMS phase error <0.78°, RMS amplitude error <1.26 dB, insertion loss <1.52 dB and $S_{11} / S_{22}$ better than 9.2 dB across 2.5-to-8.0 GHz.
