The Effect of Salt Fog on Electric Joint Compound used in Southeast Coastal

Electrical joint compounds are neutral conductive pastes that consist of a base oil and conductive filler. They are commonly used at metal connections of DC power equipment to reduce contact resistance and delay metal corrosion. The salt fog in the southeast coastal region of China accelerates the failure of electrical joint compounds. During aging, the contact resistance of connectors increase, which leads to abnormal heating. To prevent this, it is necessary to analyze the aging process, especially in a salt fog environment. In this article, we found that salt fog accelerated the debinding of conductive filler from the base oil. Upon increasing the aging time, the organic matter content in the substance decreased, and the inorganic filler content increased. An increase in the crosslinking extent and the volatilization of small-molecule siloxanes greatly affected the operating performance of the electrical joint compound.
