Design and Analysis of 50kW Two Stage Photovoltaic System

The primary impediment to the widespread use of solar photovoltaic systems is their low efficiency (20-25 per cent for single crystal, 10-15 per cent for polycrystalline, and 3-5 per cent for amorphous silicon solar cells), as well as their expensive production costs. The main goal of the work in this paper is to extract as much harvestable power as possible from a photovoltaic module and use the energy for a DC application, as well as to connect the generated power to the grid so that any surplus power that is not used by the load can be transferred to the grid. The main focus of this study has been on Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), the utilization of Boost converters, and the use of bridge inverters. In addition, the grid connection and supply to a three-phase load using a bridge inverter and PWM have been shown. The photovoltaic cell is first modelled using SIMULINK software. The MPPT is then interfaced with a boost converter and a resistive load, followed by an inverter connected to the three-phase grid. All simulations were carried out using the MATLAB SIMULINK program.
