Fast Characteristic Mode Analysis for Material Body with Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm

Characteristic modes analysis (CMA) for material bodies has become increasingly popular due to its applications to a variety of electromagnetic structures. Apart from focusing on various forms of integral equations, enhancement of the capability of the CMA for material bodies requires fast solving challenging generalized eigenvalue equation to get eigenvalues and eigenvectors. In this paper, the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) is embedded into a PMCHWT-formulation based characteristic modes (CM) solver with implicitly restarted Arnoldi method (IRAM). Numerical results demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed approach, which provides a candidate for fast CM analysis of large-scale material bodies.
