Study of Time-Domain Characteristics for Liver-Implant Ultrawideband Communications

Recently, the use of wireless implantable devices has gained attraction in the medical field for its promising novel applications which open new opportunities for medical treatments and preventions. Ultrawideband (UWB) communication system is a potential candidate to be implemented on wireless implanted devices thanks to their high-speed transmission, low power consumption, and small size. Nevertheless, the design of UWB in-body communication system is challenging and there are still various concerns that should addressed before actual implementation. This paper presented an initial investigation of time-domain channel characteristics for liver implant via simulations. The results presented that data transmission for liver-implant communications can reach several hundreds of Mbps for the distance up to 95 mm approximately suggesting viable high-speed in-body communications performance.
