HiL testing of Li-Ion battery pack based on real-time virtual vehicle model

In the present paper the goal is to create an infrastructure for testing electric vehicle (EV) battery packs. The actual hardware uses a Li-Ion battery pack connected to a hybrid source/sink controlled by a real-time computer. The actual EV is replaced by its virtual model running on a real-time target to mimic a realistic behavior. More, this EV model fuses all the mechanical assemblies built in Simcenter Amesim with the electrical ones created in MATLAB Simulink. The latter are organized using Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR). The fusing is done by National Instruments VeriStand software, running on an industrial PXI computer. This is equipped with digital and analog IOs that allow users to connect the model with actual hardware data. In doing so, the simulation of the vehicle becomes quite precise, and the power drained/sourced from/to the battery is handled by the hybrid source/sink. The latter's references are computed by the real-time vehicle model. The results presented in the paper prove the functionality of such a system benchmarking in the same time the precision and the lucratively property of this approach.
