Estimation of Solar Energy, Inverter Configuration and issues with penetration in Distribution Systems

Sun-the energy source of universe, has powered up the globe immensely in recent era. The usage of solar generated power has increased due to the technological advancements and several advantages. The generated solar power at distribution level is gaining importance due to several national and domestic schemes resulting in excessive penetration, thus converting passive network into active one. The novel feature of this paper is the estimation of solar power generation at a specified location and information of suitable inverter design for the selected system. PV syst is used for the estimation of solar power generation and MATLAB/ Simulink is used for inverter simulation. It also includes several issues regarding integration of solar power with conventional grid. In this article, two different cases with grid connected mode is considered. The loss diagrams obtained for estimation of both the cases are included. These results will be helpful to design a protection philosophy for the active network.
