A Review on Energy Access: A Case Study in Africa

The world is in a dilemma between satisfying the current energy demand and protecting the earth by reducing CO2 emissions and greenhouse gases, preventing climate change impacts, and addressing sustainable energy access. The need for energy and electricity is expected to double in the next 40 years, thus putting pressure on economic activities in developed and developing countries. This pressure is due to the growing fear of low access to renewable energy technologies. Energy poverty has impacted many lives and activities in many countries; Africans and Africa seem to be the most vulnerable. Africa's vast amount of energy resources are diverse, unevenly distributed, and enormous in quantity. Despite this, modern energy access in the continent is not yet developed, mainly in sub-Saharan African. Ensuring modern energy access in Africa is essential to reduce energy poverty, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and tackle the climate change effects. The objective of this paper deals with energy access in Africa, particularly with the introduction of renewable in the energy mix to accelerate universal access to energy.
