Research and application of medium to low voltage cable tunnel monitoring system based on NB-IoT

Medium to low voltage underground power cable is a crucial component of urban distribution network. Against the backdrop of smart city transformation, current manual preventive maintenance of cable tunnel cannot meet the increasingly strict requirement of power supply reliability and operation data accessibility. To address this issue, this paper integrates ICT into power grid and proposes a novel cable tunnel monitoring system based on NB-IoT, which realizes real time key indicators monitoring, tunnel entrance safeguarding and early warning by text message. Correspondent PC software and mobile application are developed to manage devices and supervise fault remedial action. A double manhole cover scheme is designed to minimize construction cost. The implementation in Pudong District, Shanghai shows that the proposed medium to low voltage cable tunnel monitoring system improves the efficiency and effectiveness of preventive maintenance.
