Application of Grey Wolf Optimization for PMSG-Based WECS under Different Operating Conditions: Performance Assessment

Nowadays, a grid-tied permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) has garnered greater attention over the current wind generators due to their inherent features. In this article, the gray wolf optimization (GWO) approach is applied at the wind side converter controllers to boost the PMSG'S dynamic performance under different operational scenarios (wind speed changes\three phase fault). For the realization of maximal power tracking and fault ride-through (FRT) capability, the researched system employs an optimal torque control method and a brake chopper system respectively for achieving such tasks. The goal of this research is to obtain the maximum power during wind speed changes as well as the FRT capability realization during the investigated fault. The PMSG system parameters are presented during the two scenarios examined to assess the robustness of the GWO technique, and the findings show that it is successful in enhancing the PMSG's dynamic performance. MATLAB/SIMULINK software is used to model and simulate WT, PMSG, and GWO models.
