Investigation of the Influence of Resonator Losses and Coupling Coefficient on the Characteristics of an Optical Resonator Gyroscope with a Mach-Zehnder Modulator

The previously proposed approach to the construction and principle of operation of a resonator micro-optical gyroscope is considered. It does not require scanning the resonator by frequency and is implemented by using a Mach-Zehnder modulator, to one of the arms of which a passive ring resonator is connected. The application of this approach makes it possible to simplify the design of a micro gyro, to obtain a reciprocal configuration and to reduce the actual size of the gyroscope. As studies have shown, the described approach allows obtaining measurement information by two methods. The first involves measuring the angular velocity from the values of the maxima and minima at the output of the Mach-Zander modulator. The second one is based on the displacement of these maxima and minima relative to the phase of the signal supplied to the modulator. The influence of losses and the coupling coefficient of the resonator on the characteristics of the gyroscope when determining the angular velocity by both methods is investigated.
