Temperature Control-based FCS-MPC of Traction Converters

Modular multilevel converters has been widely used in tractiom drive systems fields,but the challenge for the reliability and in-service lifetime is affected by the thermal stress imbalance. Recently, a new control algorithm,the finite control set model predictive comtrol(FCS-MPC) has been proposed,which provide a positive solution, but it is faced with a problem, that the total thermal stress will increase in the process of thermal stress balance in some cases. Therefore, a temperature control-based FCS-MPC control strategy is provided, which can not only achieve temperature balance within converters, but also reduce the total junction temperature. Firstly, establish thermal models of converters and dynamic electrical.Then, current tracing error-based electrical performance control objectives and the power loss variance-based and absolute loss-based thermal control objectives are designed. Finally, Simulink-based test is put forward to verify the validity of the proposed method, in addition, the test results as well as indepth comparative analysis show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
