Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Power System Stabilization

The power system is a nonlinear, dynamic system that is subjected to a variety of disruptions that result in unresolved issues and unpredictable outcomes in a variety of power system problems. With such constraints, power system performance can be difficult to stabilize using PSSs. As a result, instead of using traditional stabilizers, other forms of modern control techniques such as adaptive controllers and H control systems were used to achieve better operating performance. An Artificial Neuron Network (ANN) is a computational model based on the structure and functions of biological neural networks. Information that flows through the network affects the structure of the ANN because a neural network changes - or learns, in a sense - based on that input and output. ANNs are considered nonlinear statistical data modeling tools where the complex relationships between inputs and outputs are modeled or patterns are found. ANN can be used to solve the problem of PSS and different papers have researched the potentials of using ANN for PSS.
