Analysis of Power Production Profile of Bifacial Solar Plant Optimizing With Load Demand

Bifacial solar plant can convert solar energy into electrical energy from both sides of the module. This means that not only direct ray, but also others such as reflectivity and diffused light incident on back side of the module, which can be converted. Thus, the output power gain of bifacial photovoltaics (PVs) depends on the quantity of solar radiation incident on the reverse face. Moreover, controlling the orientation of bifacial PVs installation can distribute the times of peak output power in the morning and the afternoon to better match the load demand profile. As a result of this power distribution in a longer time frame, the prosumer can reduce the consumption of the electricity grid for a grid-tied solar installation. However, the lower electricity demand of the load than that of the produced PV system inevitably results in the surplus power, especially on holidays. In this study, the load demand patterns, the grid consumption, and the surplus power were analyzed assuming the substitution of a conventional large-scale electric power system with one using bifacial photovoltaics. In this case study, an educational organization such as Suranaree University of Technology is considered. Adjusting parameters of the bifacial PVs installations lead to the variation of the power distribution profiles modeled from PVsyst simulation analysis. In addition, estimating the impact of installation parameters and albedo factor on PV annual energy production is investigation to provide the optimal installation for less both grid consumption and surplus power.
