A 26 Bit Alternating U-shaped Chipless RFID Tag Using Slot Length Variation Technique

In this paper a chipless RFID tag with high data encoding capacity and compact size is presented. The structure of the tag is designed with U shaped slots of varying lengths on Rogers RT5880 substrate. The overall size of the tag is 2×2cm

. The capacity of the tag is increased by the help of ‘slot length variation technique’, which helps in doubling the number of bits while keeping the tag size compact. The proposed tag can encode 26 bits with 6.5 bits/cm
²
bit density and 6.6 bit/GHz spectral bit efficiency. All these attractive features such as high capacity, compact size and high bit density make this tag an ideal candidate for item level tracking in many industrial applications.
