Design and Implementation of a Smart Switching System for Hybrid Energy System

Energy consumption is increasing rapidly due to growth in industries and residential areas. To reduce the number of outages and meet the demand in the electricity market, distributed energy (DG) sources can be installed in the distribution network. As the number of DGs is increasing, a controller is necessary to provide a switching strategy between hybrid energy systems. This paper proposes Smart Grid Switching System (SGSS) with a power management algorithm to manage the power flow of different resources (battery, Solar PV, Wind). The energy management algorithm is applied in the centralized controller that provides commands to the switches of the sources according to the availability of the source and economical point of view. The proposed system has been verified with MATLAB/Simulink software and experimental tests. SGSS ensures continuous power delivery to the load, reduces the electricity bill, and gets uninterrupted power from renewable energy sources.
