Joint Sub-Nyquist Cooperative Wideband Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio Networks

A most promising technique for maximizing the utilization of spectrum resources for next-generation wireless communication networks is the cognitive radio technology. Despite the fact that spectrum sensing is a critical functionality of cognitive radio systems, Nyquist wideband spectrum sensing poses a significant implementation difficulty in compact commodity radios with limited energy and compute capabilities. To alleviate the aforementioned issue, many sub-Nyquist alternatives have recently been developed. Compressive measures, on the other hand, are extremely susceptible to multipath fading, shadowing, noise uncertainty, and channel impairments. To solve these challenges, a cooperative spectrum sensing technique is used to take advantage of secondary users' spectral diversity. This increases the detection performance by transferring recovered spectral support from distinct secondary users to a master device which jointly determine the spectrum occupancy status. Prior information from a geolocation database is incorporated to reduce the computing complexity and improve the detection efficiency, making this a combined approach. For cognitive radio networks, a combined sub-Nyquist cooperative wideband spectrum sensing approach is presented here. In comparison to traditional cooperative spectrum sensing systems, this technique minimizes the computational and implementation complexity. Furthermore, simulation findings show that the suggested technique outperforms non-cooperative sensing schemes in terms of detection performance.
