Investigation of Dual-Band Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna with DGS for Wireless Applications

A pristine compact Dual-band Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) with Defected Ground Structure (DGS) has been presented. The proposed antenna has been designed with HFSS simulation software for wireless applications with high radiation efficiency. The input and far field characteristics of RDRA have been analysed at their respective resonant frequencies. A defected ground structure has been incorporated and optimized to achieve maximum impedance matching. The DRA and the patch, over a substrate, together contribute to give Dual bands. The antenna is excited with the help of a microstrip feed. The Microstrip patch acts as a monopole due to the Defected Ground structure and thus resonates. Similarly, the DRA placed over the substrate resonates at its resonant frequency. Thus, multiple resonating frequencies are obtained. These frequencies correspond to the WiMAX (5.8 GHz), WLAN (5.2 GHz) for wireless devices, S- band for airport surveillance, and C-Band (4-8 GHz) for satellite applications.
