Single-Phase Grid-Connected Converter with Reduced DC-Link Voltage Ripple and Switch Count

A simplified control technique of the 1-ϕ grid-connected converter is presented in this work. The control technique adopted over the 1-ϕ grid-connected converter is based on the transfer function model-based approach. The dc-bus voltage ripple gets reduced by the appropriate selection of the PI controller gains and voltage loop time constant. The control strategy adopted over 1-ϕ half-bridge grid-connected converter replicates the performance of a full-bridge converter despite a less number of power electronics devices. The performance of the converter is analyzed by considering two different values of the dc-link capacitors. The dc-bus voltage and load current ripples increased two-fold when the size of the capacitor is reduced by 50%. The adopted control technique is verified through the simulation and experimental results. The digital control of the converter is achieved by using the TMS320F28379D Delfino Launchpad.
