Study of the Ultra-Wideband Band-Pass Filter with a Variable Number of Frequency-Selective Elements and the Possibility of Vertical Design

One of the modern directions in the development of wireless communication systems is the use of ultra-wideband technologies. One of the devices for processing ultra-wideband signals is the ultra-wideband band-pass filter that provides spectrum transmission in a given frequency band. The paper presents a study of the ultra-wideband band-pass filter with variable number of frequency-selective elements. The basic structural element of the presented ultra-wideband band-pass filter is a microstrip transition. The main feature of the presented filter is the vertical volume-modular structure of its design, which makes it possible to increase the number of frequency-selective elements without increasing the area of dielectric substrates. The results presented in this paper obtained in two ways: 1) by developing and simulation the equivalent circuit of the ultra-wideband band-pass filter and 2) by numerical simulation in a rigorous formulation of the electrodynamics problem in ANSYS HFSS software. According to the results obtained by the method of numerical electrodynamics simulation in ANSYS HFSS software, the pass band at the level of the transmission coefficient of -3 dB is 800 MHz (center frequency 1000 MHz), the insertion loss at the center frequency is less than 1.3 dB, and VSWR in the operating frequency range is less than 1.5. The ultra-wideband band-pass filter presented in the paper can be used as a frequency-selective device in design of ultra-wideband radar systems, and as functional element of beamforming devices.
