Interval Observer-Based Active Fault Tolerant Control for an Intensified Heat Exchanger/Reactor

The intensified heat exchanger/reactor, which combines the heat transfer and chemical reactions in one unit, became very popular and interesting in the chemical engineering field. However, to ensure the safety and maintain the performance of these systems, supervision, diagnosis, and fault tolerant control are highly demanded. In this paper, an interval observer-based fault tolerant control system, including a backstepping-based control law, is applied to an innovative intensified heat exchanger/reactor to detect, isolate and recover all possible dynamic faults.
