Experimental assessment of TSN support in heterogeneous platforms with virtualization for automotive applications

Modern in-vehicle applications, such as automated driving, require hardware and software platforms that integrate multiple processing units with specialized hardware and virtualization support. Such platforms need a communication system able to offer several properties, such as, support for different realtime traffic classes, high reliability, and clock synchronization. The IEEE Time-Sensitive Networking is the candidate technology for meeting these requirements, and therefore recent work has proposed a novel framework to support TSN in heterogeneous platforms with virtualization. This work presents an experimental assessment of such a novel framework and provides experimental results that offer quantitative insights on the framework performance.
